The friendly relationship with the Upper-Austrian market community, Gunskirchen that was started in 1968 became an official partnership in 1990 between what was, at that time, the youngest market town in Upper-Austria and the oldest market town in Old Bavaria.
Gunskirchen is the second-largest community in the Wels district. Comparable to Hengersberg, there are over 5.000 inhabitants in several different outlying villages and hamlets. Furthermore, Gunskirchen also was originally a purely agricultural community, but since the Second World War, it has developed into a good site for business and industry with very high residential quality.
